Digital advertising is marketing to a target audience through digital platforms, including social media, email, search engines, mobile apps, affiliate programs, and websites. One of the main benefits of digital advertising is the ability to track in real time the success of the campaign.
Word-of-mouth marketing happens when consumers talk about a company's product or service to their friends, family, and to others with whom they have close relationships. As one of the most powerful forms of advertising, 88% of consumers trust their friends' recommendations over traditional media and it works well when positive referrals are given, but can also be damaging if a bad experience is shared. Incentives or rewards for sharing information is a limited way of tracking effectiveness.
